EZReporter 4.0.23.0 Released

Diablo Analytical has released Version 4.0.23.0 of the EZReporter Software.

Note:  If you are currently running EZReporter Version 4.0.19.1 or 4.0.19.2 and are using one of the GPA 2186/2286 allocation or bridging calculation and reporting methods, it is recommended that you upgrade to Version 4.0.19.3 or later, which addresses issues with rounding and normalization under certain circumstances and makes these calculations consistent in their approach. Note that there may be small differences in reported result values compared to previous versions due to these changes.

Important: If you enable extended fraction reporting and select any of the new GPA 2186-22 or GPA 2286-24 calculation methods, the resulting configuration file will not be fully backwards compatible with older versions of EZReporter (older than 4.0.19.0). When the older version of EZReporter loads a configuration file with one of these new calculation methods selected, it will convert GPA 2186-22/2286-24 Allocation methods to Calibrated Raw Allocation (Allocation) and GPA 2186-22/2286-24 Bridging methods to Calibrated Raw Combined/Bridging with bridging enabled. These calculations will give very similar results for samples with the FID calibrated, but not exactly the same results. The older versions of EZReporter do not support the Universal Relative Response Factor method, so they are unable to process results with the FID uncalibrated. If you want to share these configuration files with other computers running EZReporter it is highly recommended that you make sure the other computers are running version 4.0.19.3 or later.

.NET Framework 4.8 Runtime is Required

The Microsoft .NET 4.8 Framework runtime must be installed. If the computer has an Internet connection, then the installer will automatically download the runtime if it is needed. If the computer is not connected to the Internet, then you will need to download the runtime file from our web site and copy it to the same folder as the installer before starting the installation. The runtime file is 526 MB in size.

Alternatively, download the .NET 4.8 Framework runtime installer from Microsoft and install the runtime prior to installing the software.

Note: if you are running a relatively recent version of Windows 10 (Windows 10 May 2019 Update and later) or any version of Windows 11, then your system already has the runtime installed. If you are running version 4.0.4.1 or later, you can download and install the correct version of the software using the “Check for Updates” option of the “Help” menu.

Otherwise, simply download and run the installation program from the download page.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you download the installer that includes support for the chromatography data system you are using.

NOTE: The “web” version of the installer can be used to upgrade an existing installation even if the computer doesn’t have Internet access.

Your current version of EZReporter will be uninstalled and the new version installed automatically.  Your license status will be preserved.

EZReporter Background Processing Error: The RPC server is unavailable

In EZReporter 4.0. if you experience a Background Processing Error with the description “The RPC server is unavailable”, this is almost always due to an issue with the default printer – typically a network printer that is not accessible, but there may be other causes.

Here are a few troubleshooting suggestions:

  1. Try printing to the default Windows printer from another application.  If this also fails than you will need to determine the cause of the problem with the default printer, including the wrong default printer being used, or networking or other problems.
  2. If you recently changed the default printer being used on your computer, try switching back to the previous default printer and see if that resolves the problem.
  3. If the Windows Printing Preferences are set with “Let Windows manage my default printer” enabled, then the wrong printer may be currently specified as the default.  See the discussion below for solutions to this problem.

Background information:

If you configure EZReporter to automatically print a report or save a PDF file at the end of each run, EZReporter uses whatever printer is currently designated as the default printer.  If you have the “Let Windows manage my default printer” enabled in the “Printer preferences” under the “Printers & Scanners” settings,  then the default printer may not be set to the desired printer.  If this is the case, set this option to “Off”:

Next, find the desired printer in the list of printers and scanners and click it to display the settings for that printer.  There should now be a “Set as default” button at the top of the printer settings.  Click this to force Windows to use this printer as the default.  Then, try reprocessing the sample in EZReporter.

EZReporter 4.0.22.0 Released
