INFICON Micro GC Fusion Reprocessing Error

This error is usually caused with older units that have a large number of data files stored in the onboard computer.  This can result in the request EZReporter sends to the Fusion to find the reprocessed samples to take too long and generate a timeout error

If you are running version 4.0.12.6 or later, then you can increase the “Data Connection Timeout” value in the connector settings:

Increase the timeout value from 8000 to 20000 milliseconds.

If you are running a version of EZReporter that is older than 4.0.12.6, then you will either need to upgrade to a newer version, or edit the Fusion Connector settings file manually as follows:

  1. Close EZReporter if it is running.
  2. Browse to the following folder:C:\ProgramData\Diablo Analytical\EZReporter\Instruments\instrument1

    Note: The “ProgramData” folder is usually hidden by Windows, but you can enter the path manually.  Alternatively, in EZReporter click, “Tools > Browse EZReporter System Folders > Program Data Folder”, and then browse to the “instruments\instrument1” folder

  3. This folder should contain the following file:EZReporter.Connectors.InficonFusionConnector.xml

    You will need to open this file in Windows Notepad to edit it.

  4. The file contents should look something like this:

    You want to change the “getfusiondatatimeout” value from “8000” (8 seconds) to a larger value – try “20000” (20 seconds) to begin with. When you edit the value, be careful not to remove any of the quotation marks, slashes, etc.

  5. Finally, save the edited file and restart EZReporter.

Archiving Micro GC Fusion Data Files

Increasing the Data Connection Timeout setting will only help to a point.  Eventually you will need to delete older data files from the Fusion.  This issue is related to the number of data files stored, not the free space that is available.  The limit appears to occur somewhere in the range of ~20,000 data files stored.  In order to restore the reprocessing functionality, you may need to delete all but ~2000-3000 data files.

If you are running EZReporter version 4.0.13.3 or later, you can use the, “Archive Micro GC Fusion data files” context menu option.  This can be helpful both to create a backup of your data files and to free up storage space.  If you are running an older version of EZReporter without this function, you will need to upgrade, which may require you to renew software support.  Please contact Diablo Analytical if you have questions about this.

To display the archive window, right-click the desired Micro GC Fusion instrument in the “Instruments” table on the EZReporter “Sample Processing” tab and then select “Archive Micro GC Fusion data files” from the popup menu.
The archive window allows you to retrieve a list of all runs and associated data files that were collected on or before a specific date.  Choose the desired date, and then click the “Retrieve” button to retrieve the list of runs from the Fusion.  The Fusion must be powered on, and the connector plugin must be connected to the instrument.  Note that depending on the number of runs in the date range you selected, it can take several minutes to retrieve the run list.  Please be patient.
Once you have retrieved the list of runs, you can select the individual runs you would like to archive by checking the corresponding “Archive” checkbox in the first column of the table.  You can click the “Select All” button to select/check all of the runs in the table.
You can also choose whether you want to backup the selected files to the local computer, and/or delete those files from the Fusion.
IMPORTANT:  If you choose to delete the data files from the Fusion without backing them up, there is no way to recover them.
Once you have selected the runs to archive, simply click the “Archive” button to begin the archive process.  The archive progress is shown in the progress bar at the bottom of the archive window.  You can cancel archiving by clicking the “Cancel” button.  However, this will not affect any of the runs that have already been archived to that point.
If you select the “Backup” option, then each data file will be downloaded from the Fusion and saved in a compressed Zip archive file in the EZReporter backup folder:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Diablo EZReporter\Backup
The archive zip file is named:
20210302-120840-FusionRunDataArchive.zip
Where “20210302-120840” will be the actual date-time when the archive file was created.
The data files within the archive file are named:
20180603-140400-Sample Name.fusion-data
Where “20180603-140400” will be the injection date/time for that run, and “Sample Name” will be the actual sample name of that run if it was entered.

EZReporter 4.0.15.0 Released

Diablo Analytical has released Version 4.0.15.0 of the EZReporter Software.

This is a major release that includes the following enhancements.   A complete list of fixes and enhancements is provided in the release notes.

[+] [ALL] Added a new “Restore Configuration” function that will restore the files saved in an EZReporter backup ZIP file to their original locations. This can be helpful when transferring EZReporter to a new computer. Click, “Tools > Restore EZReporter Configuration”.

[+] [NGA] Added the EN 15984:1977 Carbon Content and Calorific Calculations with corresponding new component and total results and export variables.

Installing this Release

If you are running version 4.0.4.1 or later, you can download and install the correct version of the software using the “Check for Updates” option of the “Help” menu.

Otherwise, simply download and run the installation program from the download page.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you download the installer that includes support for the chromatography data system you are using.

NOTE: The “web” version of the installer can be used to upgrade an existing installation even if the computer doesn’t have Internet access.

Your current version of EZReporter will be uninstalled and the new version installed automatically.  Your license status will be preserved.

MPValve 5.0 Software Released

Diablo Analytical has released amajor new version of the MPValve software – MPValve 5.0.  MPValve 5.0 combines the features of the MPValve Universal Controller and Sequencer programs from earlier versions of the software into a single application and adds enhanced sequencing capabilities.

MPValve 5.0 Enhancements

  • The separate MPValve Controller and MPValve Sequencer programs are now combined into a single program.
  • Both valve control and valve sequencing can be controlled by external programs using a command-line interface (previously only MPValve Controller allowed external control).
  • The sequencing engine has been completely redesigned and enhanced to provide more flexibility.
  • Rather than just providing the limited “Simple Sequence” of the MPValve Universal Controller, you can now create and run a full sequence from the command line interface. In fact, you can create and test a sequence in the MPValve 5.0 sequence table and it will automatically generate the corresponding command line to use.
  • You can also Start and Stop a sequence, and Advance a sequence to the next step using the command-line interface.
  • MPValve 5.0 was designed to be compatible with current and future Windows operating systems.

About the MPValve Software

The Diablo MPValve 5.0 software interfaces with Valco Instruments (VICI) multi-position/selector valves and two-position/switching valves through either the micro-electric or universal actuator via RS-232 or USB serial communications. MPValve 5.0 allows both interactive and automated control of valve position using command-line parameters and programmed valve sequences.

MS Sensor 3.0 End of Life

A recent Windows 10 update introduced an incompatibility with the MS Sensor 3.0 software that caused certain controls to display and function incorrectly and also caused the program to crash when starting an acquisition.  We were able to identify and update the incompatible software library (an older version of the Microsoft Common Controls library) and compile a new version of the software.  If you are affected by this issue, please contact Diablo Analytical Support and we can send you a link to download this new version of MS Sensor 3.0.

However, MS Sensor 3.0 is at its end of life and will become increaingly susceptible to Windows updates introducing these kinds of incompatiblities.  Users who are dependent on MS Sensor 3.0 to control their 5000A Real-Time Gas Analyzer (RTGA) should be planning for a transition to MS Sensor 4.0.  Here are some suggestions to help you during this transition period:

  1. Be very cautious allowing Windows 10 updates to be installed on the computer running the MS Sensor 3.0 software or transferring MS Sensor 3.0 to a computer running a recent version of Windows 10.  If there are concerns about computer security, disconnect the computer from the LAN and use it only to control the RTGA.
  2. Contact Diablo Analytical for information on upgrading to MS Sensor 4.0.  If your system is currently running the Agilent MSD ChemStation data system to control the Agilent Technologies Mass Spectrometer (Agilent 5973/5975/5977 MSD), then you will also need to upgrade to the Agilent MassHunter GC/MS data system.

MS Sensor 4.0 was a complete re-write of the software to address the compatibility issues we anticipated would become increasingly probable.  In addition, it has significantly enhanced functionality compared to MS Sensor 3.0.  See our MS Sensor 4.0 product page for more information.
